LANGDONS TARTAN - THE MAN WITH A CLAN!
As we approach the 1st anniversary of operations in Scotland, the marketing team wanted to adopt a novel way of celebrating a successful and profitable first year of operations.

Provenance is an important aspect of business in Scotland and we wanted something which illustrated our ongoing commitment to our Scottish customers, so what better way than to commission our very own tartan!

Designed by Trevor James of the Drawing Room in Bristol and deemed to be an original design by the Scottish Register of Tartans...we have great pleasure in announcing the creation of the Langdons Tartan, registered on the 24th November 2009, entry number 10,103 in the Scottish Register of Tartans held at the National Archives in Edinburgh.

Malcolm Wilde our Scottish General Manager has already threatened to have a pair of Tartan "Trews" ready for the next round of industry dinners (he doesn't have the legs for a kilt!) so watch this space.

Who knows...maybe tartan ties will be on the customer gift list next year.

TESTIMONIAL: Pourshins
On behalf of Pourshins, I just wanted to congratulate you and your teams on the service you provided last week whilst challenged with the severe weather issues. Between you all we were able to keep the service going with no knock on effect and that is much appreciated. I know some of our customers take it for granted but rest assured there were many companies out there that just shut up shop. Well done.

ALL CHANGE IN SCOTLAND
After a very long association with the Darnley depot now operated by DHL/EXEL we have decided to set up our own operation in Glasgow at the TDG depot situated just off the M8 Motorway. Senior TDG staff are working closely with directors and managers at Langdons planning the start-up of this operation which is scheduled for February 2009. TDG will provide temporary storage facilites for chilled and frozen transit pallets, parking and dedicated office accommodation as they do at Peterborough and Luton. A successful recruitment campaign is well underway and we are very pleased to announce the appointment of Malcolm Wilde, who has joined the Company in the position of General Manager (Scotland). Malcolm's key responsibilities will include overseeing the operation and business development, which will be of particular importance as we begin to accumulate new business from Scotland and address a longstanding imbalance of traffic. Managing Director Arran Osman has identified Scotland as a major growth area for ChillNet and he is convinced that the only way to secure our position in that territory and to grow our market share is to do our own thing.

OILMASTER REDUCES ACCIDENT RISK
Langdons operate over 80 six-wheeler rigid vehicles with refrigerated bodies. The refrigeration plant on these vehicles is located above the driver's cab and previously in order to check oil levels (and top up if required) drivers and other staff had to climb up on cab roofs - a potentially dangerous activity. A solution to this has now been found thanks to installation of the Groenvald Oilmaster unit which uses a sensor to monitor oil levels in the refrigeration plant and top up if required. The oil tank feeding this system is located at ground level and can easily be topped up when required. An excellent example of co-operation between our Health and Safety and Engineering departments leading to improved working conditons for our staff.

LANGDONS INVEST IN TRAINING
Langdons has been working in partnership with Bridgwater College since June 2007 to build and sustain a culture of learning and development across Langdons. We regard this investment as crucial to the future success of our company and one that will enable us to continue to provide the highest level of service to our customers. The key to this was that "Bridgwater College were the first training organisation to really listen to what we wanted." Read more...

TESTIMONIAL: KK Finefoods
Liverpool, home of champions: It has to be said that a good working relationship with such a vital part of our business is essential, and the characters working at Liverpool have to be the easiest and most accommodating. KK Finefoods has been dealing with Liverpool depot for over 10 years, during that time KK has grown and so has Langdons. The bigger KK gets, the more transport companies contact me asking for business, none can compare with the far reach and daily delivery schedules provided through the Chillnet service. On the odd occasion something goes wrong with deliveries, I can count on a friendly service and decisive action to keep the end user happy. A pleasure to work with.
